Nook

My sweet husband gave me a Nook some time ago, and I've really been adding the books to it. I love it! I like the fact that it's so small and easy to add books to my library. Barnes and Noble is a wonderful site. The have lots of books that are my favorite price, FREE. On Fridays, a new book is always offered. I have over 100 books, and I've only paid for one so far. I enjoy a variety of titles, especially those that would be considered classics. What makes a classic? I'll write my thoughts on that topic soon. Happy Reading!

Ants!!! Tip of the Week

Our home has been invaded by ants. They've made a nice trail to my kitchen sink in search of water. I've found a wonderful solution. I spray my counter with an inexpensive all purpose cleaner, and they die immediately. I like the orange ones, but any of the ones I've tried have worked. My counters smell nice too. If you try this, you may want to check to make sure your counters allow this type of cleaner, and make sure to wipe the counters down before preparing food.

Facebook

I love Facebook. I'll admit, I'm addicted. But I'm seeing a change and I don't like it. Lately, lots of businesses are using fb to promote their products. I like trying new things. I like getting samples in my mailbox. A lot of promoters now expect consumers to jump through too many hoops to try their products. Many are linking their items to Facebook. This is the part I don't understand. We must first click "Like" before finding out anything about the product. How can I say I like something I haven't even tried? I get it. It's all a numbers game. Who can be the most popular, whether we're talking about an individual or a company. Everyone wants to be popular, and in companies popularity means profit. I would just like to see the process a little different and more honest.

Summer Thyme

Ah, Summer, the best time of year. The temps rise, the sun is hot, and kids can be heard in neighborhoods throughout the country. What kinds of fun things make the Summer months better? Sometimes, it's just the little things that mean the most. Enjoying a cold glass of lemonade on the porch, or trading the sneakers for a pair of cool flip flops. Spending an extra few minutes in the evening enjoying a gentle breeze. Catching lightning bugs at dusk, or watching the kids as they chase them. Most of all, taking a few moments to relax and enjoy summer. Summer is the best.

A Lesson in Frugality

I've heard it said, "Necessity is the mother of invention". There are some smart Moms out there. We put this lesson to the test when our little grandson recently came to visit. We took him over to my parent's home before heading back to our house and his little feet were, well, (sorry little guy!) very stinky. This little boy at two and a half has not met a puddle he doesn't like. He tries them all out. Needless to say, he has several pairs of shoes. The ones he had on that day were dry, but really in need of some help. My Mom said, "Why don't you try some baking soda". Good idea. When we got home, I put about a tablespoon of good old baking soda
in each of his shoes, and well, I tried mine too. By morning I shook out the excess and the shoes no longer had an odor. Amazing! I know baking soda has many more uses, so I'll be doing a bit more research and finding more cost cutting ideas. Give this a try! Your feet, and your nose, will thank you. Thanks Mom!

I'm new here!

I got some information from someone today, and they set up a blog spot here so I thought, well, maybe I should too. I'm sure this will be a fun way to share photos and stories with others. I look forward to giving this a try!
